CONDTIONS TREATED
We address symptoms by treating root imbalances
Pain
If you are suffering from chronic or acute pain you are in a club of over 1.5 billion fellow sufferers. The most common sources of pain are back pain, knee pain, and headaches. All three of those body pain presentations could be directly interconnected. Most pain presentations are interconnected and our understanding of that interconnectedness allows us to treat your pain at the root and provide recommendations that will keep the pain away! 2/3rds of you sufferers suffer additionally from chronic sleep deprivation. Sleep is the sacred space where our body recovers and so lack of sleep directly contributes to worsening pain symptoms. Drugs are not the answer! More deadly than heroin, only 23% of patients surveyed found opiates effective in controlling their pain. We are all too aware of the addictive and destructive risks of the long term use of opiates. While opiates get most of the attention even short term use of NSAIDS like ibuprofen is connected to an increased risk of an acute heart attack, gastrointestinal harm, and kidney damage. Frequent use of aspirin is connected to an increased risk of liver damage. Steroids are also connected to an increased risk of liver damage and damaging the very tissue substrates they provide temporary relief for, incredible! Acupuncture is excellent and SAFE at treating pain as proven by systematic reviews of top studies. Acupuncture is cited over 1,200 times for pain treatment in medical guidelines around the world. So if acupuncture is such a great option for pain relief compared to conventional pain control options why isn't it offered to you as a first line option by your MD? The simple answer is that it is not part of the training for MD's even though it is in their guidelines. As an adjunct professor/preceptor for 4th year medical students I can tell you that this is changing.
Mood Disorders
Whether you are in a temporary funk or your funk seems a permanent fixture, I am here to help you. Pain of any sort is meant to be a signal from the body that forms a dyad with a useful response. When the pain signaling mechanisms are firing out of control our physical and emotional pain can be awful. I know and understand that pain all too well and I am telling you first hand that you are capable and deserving of much better. You know this deep inside. Where I start-physical pain has a way of putting us in a bad mood, interrupting our sleep, and depleting our energy so we always start with where it hurts. Seen through the Chinese Medicine lens physical pain is viewed as equally influenced by physical and emotional factors. For this reason, the source of your discomfort needs to be understood with deepest empathy and supported in equal regard. I use my counseling background to ensure that your experience is supported and validated, not as a counselor, but as an acupuncturist understanding the sources of the totality of your disharmonies. The very process of going through acupuncture treatment is empowering. Why? The gains made by way of acupuncture are all created by you and your body. Previous studies have shown that acupuncture has a regulatory effect on neurohormones and neurotransmitters that have an affect on brain chemistry to positively influence your mood and wellbeing. While acupuncture is not a stand alone treatment for mood disorders it can be an incredibly powerful part of a treatment plan that restores quality to your life.
Fertility/Other Conditions
The effectiveness of Chinese medicine treatments are believed to come from the regulatory effect they have on your bodies' systems. If a system is overworking Chinese Medicine helps to sedate the system and if the system is underworking Chinese Medicine helps to tone the system up. The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture for the following list of imbalances I am adept at treating:
